As the sun shining barely through the heavy clouds, the whole world seems to become dim, even the sea turns black, as if something terrible is going to happen. The sky oppresses like a pot pouring down, along with the raging and howling wave, one can clearly feel a sense of tension coming out of the photo. The ocean wave keeps sweeping against the barrier, on the other side of it is a round square. Nobody is there in such an awful day except an unlucky man, he is fight his way to escape from the dangerous place while the umbrella is his hand is nearly ruined by the strong wind. Hope he is OK.
This photo is an honorable mention of the Photo Contest 2014 of National Geography and is taken by Aytül AKBAŞ. The photographer takes the picture with the camera looking down, however, the stormy sea in the distance still creates a sense of oppression. And as the shape of the curved seats directing to the center of the square, it becomes the focal point of the photography. But the major character with a colorful umbrella breaks the balance and seems to be another focal point. His struggling gesture is eye-catching enough, moreover, the color of his umbrella highlights the character and makes it almost bounce out of the picture. In contrast with the dark sea, it is the punch line of the photography.
The caption of this photo is really simple. “During I was taking photo with my nephew, the storm came and I caught this beautiful moment.” (by Aytül AKBAŞ)With only the briefest words and the most optional snapping, the photographer presents us the most magnificent scene on a stormy day.
