Analysis of an Advertisement
Without a doubt, the most attractive advertisements can be regarded as eye-catching, attention seeking and memorable. Whether they are produced with a memorable tune or a slogan that makes them stand out of the crowd, us viewers can get the messages they are seeking out to send.
2014, however, changed the idea of generic, typical advertisements and brought out more meaningful ones where they portrayed stories of people’s hardships that relate to our waking lives. This, as a result, has helped to make such advertisements more memorable. One advertisement that I would like to discuss is entitled “World’s Toughest Job” and was released on April 14, 2014 on the Youtube channel: cardstore.
The advertisement talks about how an agency created a fake job and posted it online on websites and newspapers. The job description brought twenty four lucky individuals to have an online interview with the “fake” recruiter. Throughout the video, we see that there are rather harsh and exhausting requirements and tasks that are needed to fulfill the position. This makes the interviewees stunned or shocked and are kept in dismay when the recruiter continues to bring out overwhelming responsibilities that are expected from the interviewees.
Finally, the true message is released when the recruiter announces that there are millions of people who do have these positions, and they are called “Mothers”. The interviewees, upon reaching the epiphany of the interview, become joyous, grateful and emotional about their mothers. The video then advertises that Mother’s Day is approaching and reminds us that there are lovable things we can do for our loved ones to make the world a better living place for each other.
Such an idea-oriented advertisement truly gives us a memorable image. One of the reasons I believe this, is because the ad brought out a social experiment where real, normal people are used. This is achieved by the mirror effect where we feel we are also taking part of the interview. We were brought into a roller-coaster of feelings with the interviewees—we grew shocked, curious and stunned over the recruiter telling us these numerous harsh requirements needed to fulfill the job position, but when its purpose was revealed to us, we smiled and we are able to remember its message.
Because of the ad's integrity and sincerity, the ad has an appeal to our emotions as well as an appeal to its credibility. There is a sense of goodwill felt through the ad and we are left thinking and evaluating our relationships with our loved ones.
Overall, the advertisement does a remarkable job in spreading its message on love and kindness. With more messages likes this, perhaps the world can be filled with a little more love and kindness.
